Biography

Hooman SuraniYancheshmeh joins the Hydrometallurgy and Corrosion group at UBC, guided by Dr. Edouard Asselin. With a profound background in Material Science and Engineering, he graduated top of his class from the Sahand University of Technology and holds a master’s degree focused on Corrosion and Protection from the Sharif University of Technology.He has substantially contributed to the field through publications, including journal articles and a book chapter on the electrodeposition and corrosion study of Ni-Mo coatings, and years of hands-on industrial experience.

Hooman’s PhD research at UBC focuses on the alkaline pressure leaching of beta-spodumene for lithium extraction—a critical element in today’s burgeoning energy material markets. His work aims to optimize lithium yield and investigate sustainable methods to turn extraction waste into environmentally friendly products. His experience spans advanced material characterization techniques across diverse industrial fields of materials engineering, which are pivotal in developing new materials and processes for energy applications. Hooman is passionate about leveraging his expertise in hydrometallurgy to address critical challenges in the lithium production sector and transform waste into beneficial products.

Outside the laboratory, Hooman is a dedicated natural bodybuilder. He believes that intensive physical training enhances mental alertness and resilience, equipping him to better tackle life’s challenges.
